Book Trailer–
Kimberla Lawson Roby’s Latest

In Sin No More the Reverend Curtis Black tries to mend his wicked ways, and Kimberla Lawson Roby has penned another hot one.

I enjoyed this book trailer. I liked the voice of the actor who plays Reverend Black. It’s smooth and has a nice tone. You can feel the conflict building up in his voice and in the video.

But tell me, what do you all think? Did it hold your attention? Does it make you think about picking up a copy of Sin No More? Is it well done? Why or why not?

I picked up Sin No More prior to the trailer because I’m a fan of the Rev. Curtis Black series. If I were a new reader, this trailer would not have encouraged me to pick up the book. The voice was nice but it was sort of a monotonish (I know not a word…lol) and I don’t like book trailers that tell rather than show. SHOW ME…engage me…have the characters to act out the part. One of the best book trailers done was for a Brenda Jackson book…now whoever she used…others should seek out because that company knows how to do trailers. Not sure if it was done by COS Productions…who’s produced some of my favorite trailers…but Brenda’s trailer and Cheryl Robinson’s/Sweet GA Brown are some of my favorites and I would like to see more in these vains…they’re memorable and I can’t help but tell folks about them…or forward them…. I wasn’t inspired by Sin No More to forward the trailer but I will tell folks to check out the book. If you’re a Curtis Black fan then definitely pick up this one to see what kind of mess he’s gotten into this time.

One of the reasons I decided to invite comments is that I realize that taste in book trailers is very much subjective. Sure there are some hard and fast rules that you’d expect in any type of film such as no camera jitters, don’t give away the ending too early, etc. But much is based on taste.

I happen to like trailers that are more subtle, which is why I liked this one. Having said that, I have seen some that are like mini-movies that are short, subtle and quite good. Just don’t overdo it with the mini-movies. A book is about the imagination so leave something to my imagination, darn it! If I wanted a whole movie I’d go to the theater.

Anyway, your comments/viewpoints are most welcome Yvonne, Yasmin and others. Keep ‘em coming.

It’s rare for a book trailor to make me interested. Reviews or recommendations from others are why I follow up on a book.
