On This Day in History–
Nelson Mandela Freed

Nelson Mandela walked out of prison on this day, February 11, in 1990. He had been in prison for 27 years.

I went to see him speak when he came to Washington, DC, and it was a very memorable and exciting day.

Hmm. Mandela in DC on this day in 1990, Obama in DC (MD&VA) on this day in 2008.

I’m just sayin’!

Not sure where you saw him, Connie but I heard him speak at Howard University and was fortunate enough to be seated in the VIP section. if you were there you will remember the stirring introduction by Eleanor Trailor (sp?). I seldom awe-struck by anyone but this was one of those days.

Juan, I don’t remember exactly where it was but it was a huge room in downtown DC where everyone was standing and he was on a stage with Winnie Mandela (I believe).
