The Second Salon Book Club (SLURL) is based in Virtual Harlem, a location in the online world of Second Life. And our first guest is one of the hottest authors around–Kimberla Lawson Roby!
Second Salon is inspired by the salons of the Harlem Renaissance, the most famous of which was The Dark Tower, hosted by A’Lelia Walker, daughter of Madam C. J. Walker, entrepreneur extraordinaire.

A’Lelia Walker’s salon drew many black and white writers as well as artists, scholars, musicians and playwrights to Harlem for literary readings, discussions, music and dancing. Her literary guests included Zora Neale Hurston, Langston Hughes, James Weldon Johnson, Countee Cullen and many others.

Members of the Second Salon Book Club will read the works of contemporary published authors and then have the opportunity to chat with them online in Virtual Harlem, Second Life.
